We are currently accepting applications for this post-doc position. This is a unique opportunity for junior researchers with a recent PhD degree in Physics or related fields (or about to hold one) to join one the SLAM research team and the Structured Photons Lab.
The role and the project
We are looking for a postdoc researcher to engineer a photonic simulator based on co-propagating spatial modes of light that are periodically coupled via spin-orbit optical elements. This architecture will enable the accurate manipulation of hundreds of modes simultaneously, allowing the simulation of quantum evolutions of large-scale systems that are hardly accessible via integrated technologies. Within the project DISTRUCT - Discrete Quantum Simulators with Structured Light, we will validate experimentally key theoretical predictions developed in close collaboration with the Quantum Information Theory Group in Pavia. In particular, we plan to simulate scattering processes in discrete-time quantum walks.
Working conditions
Contract duration: 1 year (possibility to extend up to 2 years)
Estimated monthly net salary: 1600-2000 Euro, to be negotiated depending on qualifications and previous experience.
Target start date: 01/01/2024 (flexible)
The labs location
The SLAM labs are part of the Physics Department of the University of Naples Federico II, one of the largest and oldest research universities in Italy. It is located in a big campus in the western area of the city. The group is actively contributing to the recent initiative Quantum Science and Technology in Naples (www.qst.unina.it).
Naples
Naples is a treasure trove of stunning architecture, world-class museums, and delicious cuisine. With its sunny climate and stunning coastal location, the city is a nice spot to live and work. Whether you’re exploring the ancient ruins of Pompeii or strolling along the picturesque waterfront, there’s always something new to discover in this vibrant city.
